An air freshener odor was detected at the hallway intersection near back exit doors outside of Guidance, Office 141, and elementary front office workroom. Doors to areas were closed. No air freshener device or room having a strong scent was readily identified. School administration is to inform staff that air freshener devices are not permitted because they can mask an odor of concern and/or be a nuisance/irritant to other individuals. The shower stall area of the girls locker room had a slight sewer gas odor (from dried out shower drain traps). School custodial and physical education staff are to work together to run showers and/or pour water down the drain traps on a monthly basis.

Food items readily accessible to pest/rodents in rooms 77 and 218. School administration is to inform staff to place food items in a durable and sealable container (i.e. Tupperware) and place in a cabinet or drawer. Light dust accumulation observed on media book shelves. Moderate to heavy dust accumulation observed in room 134 (some horizontal surfaces and chalk dust in chalk tray), tops of lockers in the related arts hallway, and room 171 (Guidance receptions area) on top of file cabinets and desks. Custodial staff is to clean these areas and items. Non-HCPSS issued portable air cleaners were observed in rooms 171 and administration area. These units use HEPA and charcoal filters along with a bipolar ionization/electro-chemical reaction option (mode button allowing unit to emit charged ions to allow finer airborne particles to clump and fall out of the air). The Office of Environment does not recommend the use of portable air cleaners, especially those having more than HEPA and/or charcoal filters since other units may hinder the indoor environmental quality (i.e. unknown byproducts from reactions, such ozone) School administration is to remove these non-issued air cleaners. HCPSS has an approved portable HEPA filtration device that has been supplied to schools.
No stained or damage ceiling tiles
Yes
Work Order Closed by Building Maintenance
Water stained ceiling tiles observed at the double doors in hallway outside gym and cafeteria, hallway between rooms 97 and 99, room 70, room 218 (near an exhaust/return grille), and room 94 (mold growth visibly present). A ceiling tile was missing behind the mounted television in room 70. If not already being addressed, school custodial staff is to submit a work order to Building Maintenance to assess and resolve the source of the leak. Custodial staff is to replace the ceiling tile in room 94 as soon as possible and mark area until Building Maintenance responds.

Room 134 had three spray bottles (non-HCPSS product, 2 HCPSS custodial products (one with worn label) readily accessible to students. Rooms 124 and 223 had a HCPSS custodial product in a spray bottle readily accessible to students. Room 218 had an unidentifiable liquid in a spray bottle readily accessible to students. Administration area and room 126, had an aerosol disinfectant. School administration to ensure non-issued HCPSS chemicals and aerosol disinfectants are removed from the building as these are not permitted and can be an airborne irritant to sensitive individuals. In addition, inform staff not to leave HCPSS chemical spray bottles readily accessible to students. School custodial staff are to provide manufacturer labels (to apply) to teachers having spray bottles containing HCPSS custodial cleaning product.
