An air freshener aroma was detected upon entering the commons of the Grade 5 pod (all classroom doors were closed). An air freshener was sensed and observed in room 166 (room within 5th grade pod). Air freshener sprays were observed in the commons area of the 1st grade pod. A small oil diffuser / humidifier was observed in Room 71 (introduces an odorant and potential harmful bacteria (if water is not maintained) into the air). Also in Room 166 (cabinet under sink) were aerosol sprays and a spray bottle with hand written label "Anti Cricket Spray" which is considered a possible pesticide (it is unlawful to have a pesticide applied that is not part of HCPSS integrated pest management plan and by an unlicensed applicator). An aerosol disinfectant was observed in Room 92. School administration is to inform staff to remove such products as they are not permitted since they can mask an odor of concern, be a nuisance or irritant to other individuals, and/or unlawful in a school setting. In addition, spray bottles (properly labeled with HCPSS custodial product and/or unlabeled and unknown product) were observed in rooms 43, 71 (in restroom), 166, 206A, and Portable 70. Besides labeling issues, the products were within student reach. School administration is to inform staff to keep approved HCPSS custodial chemical products properly labeled (custodial staff have manufacturer's labels) and out of reach from students. Room 71 had clutter around staff desk area(s), several fabric items (bean bag and throw pillows), and beans stored in a baggy (appears for instructional purposes). Food accessible to pests were observed in rooms 57 (seeds), 92, 206A, and commons area of the 1st grade pod. The fabric items above can collect allergens over time if not properly maintained and a become a potential trigger for allergies when handled in close contact by students. School administration is to determine if these fabric items are of educational value. If so, they must have a cleaning plan or be replaced with a cleanable/wipeable surface (i.e. vinyl). School administration is to inform staff to place food related items in a sealable and durable container.
No stained or damage ceiling tiles
Yes
Work Order Closed by Building Maintenance
Water stained ceiling tiles were observed in hallways (between cafeteria and closet with roof access; outside of 4th grade pod) and the closet in room 131. If not already being addressed, school custodial staff is to submit a work order to Building Maintenance to assess and resolve the source of the leak.
