Identify deficiencies that may impact IEQ and/or sources of odor concerns. Typically includes the following depending on the nature of concern, but not limited to:
- interview/questionnaire of concern individual(s)
- inspection above drop ceiling (condition of roof deck, pipe insulation, return air plenum)
- inspection of ventilation system (operation of variable air volume box and outdoor air dampers, check controls, measurements of carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity, sources near outdoor air intake, measure return and supply air volume, cleanliness of coils, liner and condensate pan)
- inspection of exterior
- inspection below drop ceiling (housekeeping, sink and floor drain traps, signs of past and present moisture concern via visual and/or moisture meter, mold growth, ensure connection of current and capping of abandoned sanitary vents, odorizers, excessive plants and fabric items, identify potential pathways, and measure volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and lighting)

No moldy/musty odors were identified in the general space.
Moisture testing was conducted on the drywall wall and the bottoms of casework. No elevated moisture was detected.
Various surfaces were assessed including the undersides of tables/desks and the insides of cubbies. No visible mold growth was observed.
The drains in the classroom sink and bathroom sink were observed. The traps contained water.
A thermal infrared camera screening was conducted. No thermal anomalies indicative of moisture intrusion were identifed.
The area rug was screened with an ultra violet flashlight. No staining was observed.
The Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system was operational at the time of the visit. No odors were emanating from the supply vents.
No odors or concerns were identifed above the drop ceiling.
A faint odor was detected within the trash can in the room. The bag had to be removed and nose very close to bottom of trash can to detect the faint odor.
Administration can request Custodial Services to remove the trash bag and clean/disinfect the inside of the trash can.
