Concern
There was Mold on the wall in my office in my office and in one of the back cot areas. The problem has since been addressed.
IEQ Investigation Process

Identify deficiencies that may impact IEQ and/or sources of odor concerns. Typically includes the following depending on the nature of concern, but not limited to:

  • interview/questionnaire of concern individual(s)
  • inspection above drop ceiling (condition of roof deck, pipe insulation, return air plenum)
  • inspection of ventilation system (operation of variable air volume box and outdoor air dampers, check controls, measurements of carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity, sources near outdoor air intake, measure return and supply air volume, cleanliness of coils, liner and condensate pan)
  • inspection of exterior
  • inspection below drop ceiling (housekeeping, sink and floor drain traps, signs of past and present moisture concern via visual and/or moisture meter, mold growth, ensure connection of current and capping of abandoned sanitary vents, odorizers, excessive plants and fabric items, identify potential pathways, and measure volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and lighting)
Findings

Date of Assessment(s): August 22, 26, 30, September 18, 19, 30 2024

The Office of the Environment visited the site on August 22, 2024. During the visit, a staff member informed the Office of the Environment that the suspect mold was cleaned by custodial staff prior to arrival.

The return was observed to be dirty within office D117. The Office of the Environment cleaned the return using a disinfectant.

Suspect mold was observed on the CMU wall and drywall within D116. The suspect mold  and return was cleaned upon discovery.

The Office of the Environment placed data loggers within the health suite, media center, and C114 between August 26th and August 30th. Each of the above mentioned rooms are serviced by Air Handling Unit-13 (AHU-13).  Elevated relative humidity for an extended period of time, to include occupied hours was identified in each of the spaces. Data was sent to Building Maintenance to assess.

Building maintenance observed that the discharge air temperature sensor was calibrated properly. The plant housing was damaged allowing sunlight to damage the sensor. Building maintenance to order and replace sensor.

September 18, 2024

The Office of the Environment and Building Maintenance performed a smoke test to assess air circulation within the spaces with elevated relative humidity.

Media Center

Air from the unconditioned boiler room was observed entering the media center from underneath the door separating the spaces. This air circulation pattern is believed to be caused by a negative pressure differential in an adjoining storage area, caused by Air Handling Unit's (AHUs) 6 and 7, which serve the main gym.

Health Room

No obvious indications of humid air from the outside or another space was being drawn into the area.

C114

Smoke testing did not reveal indications of humid air from the outside or another space was being drawn into the area.

September 19 - 30, 2024

The Office of the Environment placed data loggers within the health suite, media center, and C114 to measure the temperature, relative humidity, dew point, and carbon dioxide between September 19th and September 30th.

Corrective Actions
July 20th, 2024

Building Maintenance to install door sweeps to minimize unconditioned air the boiler room from migrating into the media center.

September 19th, 2024

Building Maintenance (HVAC) changed the cooling setpoint from 72 F to 76 F and the heating set point from 70 F to 73 F.

October 15th, 2024

Seasonal weather patterns with high relative humidity are no longer present. The Office of the Environment will place data loggers in August 2025 to determine if the concern is still present.
