Concern
On November 14, 2023, the Office of the Environment was informed of a leak within room 017. It was reported that the leak originated from a local isolation valve being left in the open position (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) work over the summer). The leak was isolated by Building Maintenance upon discovery.

Water impacted materials included carpet.
IEQ Investigation Process

Identify deficiencies that may impact IEQ and/or sources of odor concerns. Typically includes the following depending on the nature of concern, but not limited to:

  • interview/questionnaire of concern individual(s)
  • inspection above drop ceiling (condition of roof deck, pipe insulation, return air plenum)
  • inspection of ventilation system (operation of variable air volume box and outdoor air dampers, check controls, measurements of carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity, sources near outdoor air intake, measure return and supply air volume, cleanliness of coils, liner and condensate pan)
  • inspection of exterior
  • inspection below drop ceiling (housekeeping, sink and floor drain traps, signs of past and present moisture concern via visual and/or moisture meter, mold growth, ensure connection of current and capping of abandoned sanitary vents, odorizers, excessive plants and fabric items, identify potential pathways, and measure volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and lighting)
Findings

Date of Assessment: November 15, 2023

Custodial Services placed a fan on November 14, to dry impacted carpet. The carpet was checked with a moisture sensor on November 15 and no elevated moisture was detected in the carpet.

Drywall walls in the vicinity were assessed for elevated moisture using a moisture meter (drywall setting) and no elevated moisture was detected.

No further action as it relates to microbial growth is warranted.

Building Maintenance (HVAC) is working with a contractor to permanently correct the cause of the leak. The origin of the leak currently has an isolation valve which is closed until the permanent repair is made.
