IEQ Investigation Process

Identify deficiencies that may impact IEQ and/or sources of odor concerns. Typically includes the following depending on the nature of concern, but not limited to:

  • interview/questionnaire of concern individual(s)
  • inspection above drop ceiling (condition of roof deck, pipe insulation, return air plenum)
  • inspection of ventilation system (operation of variable air volume box and outdoor air dampers, check controls, measurements of carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity, sources near outdoor air intake, measure return and supply air volume, cleanliness of coils, liner and condensate pan)
  • inspection of exterior
  • inspection below drop ceiling (housekeeping, sink and floor drain traps, signs of past and present moisture concern via visual and/or moisture meter, mold growth, ensure connection of current and capping of abandoned sanitary vents, odorizers, excessive plants and fabric items, identify potential pathways, and measure volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and lighting)
Findings

Date of Assessment: May 20, 22 2026

On May 20, 2026, the Office of the Environment responded to an indoor environmental quality (IEQ) concern and identified visible mold growth on drywall located outside Classroom 133. Additional mold growth was observed behind the vinyl cove base along the same wall.

The affected areas were cleaned using a disinfectant, and the drywall was isolated with polyethylene sheeting until it can be removed and replaced.

Moisture meter readings were collected throughout the area, and no elevated moisture levels were detected, indicating that an active moisture source is no longer present.

Although the exact cause could not be definitively determined, the mold growth was likely associated with excessive water use during custodial floor-cleaning activities.

Corrective Actions
May 20th, 2026

Custodial management reviewed wet floor cleaning procedures with staff to help prevent future water damage and mold growth.

May 22nd, 2026

A board approved restoration contractor removed impacted drywall. Adjacent areas of unimpacted drywall were cleaned and encapsulated as a precaution.

June 1st, 2026
