Concern
I am concerned about the smell in the room. Several health symptoms and an odor were reported and thought to be associated with the portable.
IEQ Investigation Process

Identify deficiencies that may impact IEQ and/or sources of odor concerns. Typically includes the following depending on the nature of concern, but not limited to:

  • interview/questionnaire of concern individual(s)
  • inspection above drop ceiling (condition of roof deck, pipe insulation, return air plenum)
  • inspection of ventilation system (operation of variable air volume box and outdoor air dampers, check controls, measurements of carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity, sources near outdoor air intake, measure return and supply air volume, cleanliness of coils, liner and condensate pan)
  • inspection of exterior
  • inspection below drop ceiling (housekeeping, sink and floor drain traps, signs of past and present moisture concern via visual and/or moisture meter, mold growth, ensure connection of current and capping of abandoned sanitary vents, odorizers, excessive plants and fabric items, identify potential pathways, and measure volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and lighting)
Findings

Date(s) of Assessment: June 4 and 14, 2019

No mold growth or odors were identified within the portable.

No moisture was detected within the drywall of the portable.

Temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide readings were acceptable.

A thermal imaging scan of the portables walls and ceilings was conducted. No signs indicative of moisture intrusion were identified. 

The thermostat settings were set properly.

The inside of the supply ducts were observed through the diffusers. No concerns were identified within the ducts.

No thermal anomalies indicative of moisture intrusion were identified. 

The carpet and wood decking (near doors) was probed with a moisture meter. No elevated moisture was detected.

The Office of the Environment returned on June 14, 2019 due to a recent rain. The drywall was probed with a moisture meter and no elevated moisture was detected.

July 15th, 2019

If an odor returns, Administration is to inform the Office of the Environment immediately. If available, the Office of the Environment will visit the site and attempt to determine the source of the odor.
