Mold growing on surfaces throughout the room.
IEQ Investigation Process

Identify deficiencies that may impact IEQ and/or sources of odor concerns. Typically includes the following depending on the nature of concern, but not limited to:

  • interview/questionnaire of concern individual(s)
  • inspection above drop ceiling (condition of roof deck, pipe insulation, return air plenum)
  • inspection of ventilation system (operation of variable air volume box and outdoor air dampers, check controls, measurements of carbon dioxide, temperature and relative humidity, sources near outdoor air intake, measure return and supply air volume, cleanliness of coils, liner and condensate pan)
  • inspection of exterior
  • inspection below drop ceiling (housekeeping, sink and floor drain traps, signs of past and present moisture concern via visual and/or moisture meter, mold growth, ensure connection of current and capping of abandoned sanitary vents, odorizers, excessive plants and fabric items, identify potential pathways, and measure volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and lighting)
Findings

Date of Assessment: September 13, 2021

Relative humidity mold growth was observed on various surfaces within the storage closet.

In general, materials made of metal and plastic were impacted.

The room contained several card-board boxes, however these were not impacted by visible mold growth.

The storage closet is not ventilated. The space receives air circulation through louvers in the door (leads to main hall), however these louvers were closed.

Relative humidity was not elevated during the assessment. The growth likely occurred sometime over the summer.

Other storage areas were assessed in the same ventilation zone and no other areas were observed to be impacted.

Corrective Actions
September 13th, 2021

The Office of the Environment attempted to manually open the louvers within the door, however they were stuck closed. The Office of the Environment requested Building Maintenance (HVAC) assess the louver position and correct as necessary. The louvers were corrected and observed to be open on September 23, 2021.

Should the louvers become closed again, a work order should be created for Building Maintenance to address.

September 15th, 2021

A board-approved restoration contractor cleaned/disinfected the materials within the storage closet.
